Things I wish I knew

I got into Magic: The Gathering in April of 2015. After playing over the last few years, I have learned a lot that I wish I knew earlier when I started playing. Not so much about the game play, but how to tell if a card is good, how to get the most out of your money, things like that. If you’re new to the game, I would recommend starting here.

Modern Deck Analysis

Would you like to play competitively but don’t know where to start? Standard is the introductory format, but it’s always changing. If I were to start talking about the decks that exist right now, they’d be out of date probably when the next set is released. Legacy and Vintage don’t change too much, but the price of a deck in those formats is outrageous. Modern can still be pricey, but it’s also the most popular format. While some cards from Standard will see play in Modern, it doesn’t drastically change that often. In this series I’ll break down and explain some of those decks.

Commander Analysis

Arguably the funnest format for Magic: The Gathering. Nearly every card is legal and even bad cards can be useful. In this series I will pick a legendary creature and discuss some possible deck ideas and strategies.

Pioneer Deck Analysis

Introduced in 2019, Pioneer is a format that falls between Standard and Modern. Right now there are lots of viable decks and strategies that can be used. However, the format is new and a lot of cards may find themselves on the ban list. The format is barely 6 months old as of this addition to the blog and there are already 14 cards on the ban list, but don’t let that discourage you from picking up some old standard cards and start brewing a deck of your own creation.
